250 Open Age Club Games

In the last Home and Away game for the season Michael ‘Shazza’ John saddled up for his 250th open age game. Mick has been an absolute work horse for Katunga starting his career in the fourths some 25 years ago. Although junior football records don’t date back to the early 2000’s, we believe he has amassed a total club game count somewhere between 350 and 400 games. An outstanding effort by such a great clubman.

He was a premiership captain of the Thirds in 2007 and fortunate to share that special win with his dad Steve as coach in his last year of juniors. Since then he has gone on to has captain the Reserves for many seasons, won the Best and Fairest in 2011 as well as numerous coaches and best team man awards.

For a little bloke, Mick’s voice around the footy is huge—lifting teammates and helping everyone find the ball. It’s that leadership and consistency that earned him another nickname 'The Mailman'—because he always delivers. You won’t find a nicer guy to share the field with. A quiet achiever with silky skills and unwavering dedication, Mick embodies everything great about community footy.

Best of luck this weekend, Shazza—and here’s to many more games ahead!
